Voted “Orchestra of the Year” in 2013 by a panel of 50 international music critics, the German-based Staatskapelle Dresden Orchestra ended their fourth visit to the capital on a high note, performing alongside the legendary pianist Rudolf Buchbinder for the second and final instalment of the two-night showcase.
Brought to the UAE under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates, and organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, the Abu Dhabi Classics programme hosted Rudolf Buchbinder for the first time in the Emirate.
Buchbinder enamoured audiences by showcasing the passionate intensity of Viennese classical music performance and philosophy by not only playing the piano to the highest standard of musical mastery, but simultaneously conducting the 43-artist strong Orchestra.
The Orchestra together with the renowned pianist took to the stage at Emirates Palace, presenting the complete cycle of five piano concertos by Ludwig van Beethoven, playing Beethoven’s piano concertos 1 to 5 across both evenings. Classical music purists and audiences keen to experience outstanding artistic performance enjoyed innovative musical expressions synonymous with the transition between the Classical and Romantic eras.
